White House trade advisor Peter Navarro has strongly criticized India, taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in China. Navarro condemned the meeting, describing it as shameful and criticizing Modi for aligning with authoritarian leaders. He also emphasized the need for India to align with the US, Europe, and Ukraine, advocating against purchasing discounted crude oil from Moscow. Navarro’s remarks follow earlier criticism after PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Xi Jinping. He expressed concern about Modi’s associations, urging the Indian people to understand the situation. The advisor’s statements come amid rising tensions between Washington and New Delhi due to tariffs imposed on Indian goods, including penalties for buying Russian oil. The SCO summit saw PM Modi emphasizing connectivity for trade, while Putin highlighted the SCO’s role in a new Eurasian security system. Xi Jinping called for upholding fairness and justice within the SCO.
