Conflicting reports surrounding the case of Nimisha Priya, the Kerala nurse convicted for the 2017 murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi in Yemen, have been circulating. Amidst claims of delayed execution and potential reconciliation, Talal’s brother, Abdelfattah Mehdi, has refuted these narratives. He has dismissed reports of meetings with Indian delegates, Sufi leaders, or the Grand Mufti, asserting that the family insists on the execution of Nimisha Priya under Sharia law. Mehdi criticized the Indian media for portraying Nimisha as a victim and denied any acceptance of ‘blood money’ or pardons. He clarified that the only contact was a single phone call and that they are firmly committed to upholding the law of Allah.

In a statement, Mehdi accused embassy officials and legal representatives of obstructing justice. He emphasized that the family’s resolve would only be strengthened by any delay in the implementation of justice. The family’s stance remains resolute: they seek justice as per Sharia law and will not negotiate.
