A Rath Yatra procession in Toronto, Canada, faced a disturbing incident when eggs were thrown at participants. The act drew immediate condemnation from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Social media users and community members decried the attack, labeling it as an act of ‘Hinduphobia’ and expressing outrage.
A video shared by Sangna Bajaj, an attendee of the procession, displayed the aftermath of the attack, with eggshells visible on the street. Bajaj noted that the eggs were thrown from a nearby building, but the procession continued undeterred. “We were shocked. Hurt. But we kept going. Because hate can never defeat faith,” she stated.
The incident has ignited discussions about rising intolerance and the safety of religious groups in Canada, particularly given that Hinduism is the third-largest religion in the country. The MEA confirmed it has addressed the matter with Canadian authorities, urging them to hold the perpetrators accountable.
