Trump stated that they avoided injury only by holding onto the handrails, calling the event a ‘conspiracy.’ Later, during his address to the UN General Assembly, the teleprompter malfunctioned, forcing him to deliver a 57-minute speech without it. He also reported issues with the audio system, preventing many attendees from hearing his speech properly. Trump has requested the UN Secretary-General to investigate, including securing security camera footage from the escalator and involving the Secret Service. The UN responded, attributing the escalator stop to a safety mechanism triggered by a videographer, while the White House has stated that those responsible should be fired and investigated.
