United States President Donald Trump has indicated a potential visit to India in the coming year, signaling a possible strengthening of bilateral ties. This comes at a time when both nations are actively pursuing enhanced trade relations. During recent remarks, Trump lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as both a “great man” and a “friend.”

Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump expressed satisfaction with his ongoing discussions with PM Modi. “He (PM Modi) largely stopped buying from Russia. And he is a friend of mine, and we speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a great man. He is a friend of mine, and we speak, and he wants me to go there. We will figure that out, I will go… Prime Minister Modi is a great man, and I will be going,” Trump stated.

When directly questioned about the possibility of traveling to India next year, Trump responded affirmatively, saying, “It could be, yes.” These comments were made during a White House press briefing that also focused on new initiatives to lower prescription drug costs in the US.

This potential visit follows earlier reports that indicated Trump might not attend the upcoming Quad Summit in India. However, the President’s recent statements suggest a shift in plans, underscoring the dynamic nature of India-US relations amidst ongoing trade negotiations, particularly concerning India’s energy procurement from Russia.
