During a significant summit in Egypt, former US President Donald Trump voiced strong optimism regarding the relationship between India and Pakistan. He confidently stated, “I think Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together,” a remark made in the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who responded with a positive nod. The summit, focused on peace initiatives and humanitarian efforts in Gaza, saw international leaders converge to discuss crucial regional stability. Trump also acknowledged Pakistan’s military leadership, referring to its chief as his “favorite field marshal.” Prime Minister Sharif was invited to speak, highlighting Pakistan’s potential contribution to Middle Eastern peace. India’s participation was led by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, who engaged with Trump on India’s commitment to humanitarian aid for Gaza and its support for peace efforts. The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly concerning the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, were a backdrop to Trump’s hopeful pronouncements. Recent escalations, including terrorist attacks and subsequent operations, have strained bilateral ties. The Egyptian-hosted summit, co-led by President El-Sissi and Trump, aimed to establish ceasefire measures and long-term peace frameworks for the Gaza conflict. Trump received Egypt’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Nile, for his role in the summit.
