US President Donald Trump’s focus on tariffs has become a global talking point, drawing criticism from various quarters. While some see these tariffs as misguided, others, including prominent economists, view them as a significant threat. Despite the criticism, Trump appears unwavering in his approach. Recently, he announced a 50% tariff on goods from India.

According to US economist and Johns Hopkins University professor Steve Hanke, Trump is “destroying himself” by engaging in trade wars against the rest of the world. Hanke labeled Trump’s 50% Indian tariff as “absolute nonsense,” describing it as “built on sand.” Hanke advised India to exercise patience, as he believes Trump’s economic model will collapse soon. China and Russia have also voiced their disapproval of Trump’s actions.
