The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to cease this year, according to a statement made by Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for Donald Trump. Witkoff’s assessment suggests that the current trajectory of events does not indicate an imminent end to the war.

This statement is considered a setback for Trump, who has repeatedly asserted his ability to quickly end the conflict. Simultaneously, European leaders express skepticism about the trustworthiness of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump’s threats have had little impact. Both Russia and Ukraine have seemingly disregarded Trump’s warnings regarding the war. Ukraine has even commenced its own domestic missile production, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claiming these missiles are highly effective.

Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, with the primary goal of swiftly capturing the entire Donbas region. Utilizing missiles and drones, Russia is conducting relentless attacks.

    Reasons for the Stalled Ceasefire:

    1. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the current Ukrainian President lacks the authority to negotiate. Russia questions Zelenskyy’s legitimacy, as his term has expired. This is the initial obstacle in the path to negotiations. Trump is striving to facilitate talks between Putin and Zelenskyy as soon as possible.

    2. Russia is unwilling to relinquish the territories it has seized during the war, specifically the Donbas region. Russia also demands official recognition of Crimea. Another demand is that Ukraine should not join NATO. While the United States has signaled its willingness to consider this request, it has also declared security guarantees for Ukraine, creating another roadblock.
