President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on India has drawn criticism within the United States. The House Foreign Affairs Committee has questioned the Trump administration’s policy towards India, stating that the tariffs will not deter Russian President Vladimir Putin. The committee’s statement followed a warning from the US Treasury Secretary, who threatened further tariffs on India if Putin did not halt the war. The committee criticized Trump, asserting that the tariffs would not prevent Putin from his actions in Ukraine. They suggested that if Trump genuinely sought to address Russia’s invasion, he should consider punishing Putin and providing Ukraine with necessary military aid. The tariffs were imposed due to India’s purchase of Russian oil, raising them from 25% to 50%. India has called the tariffs unfair.
