Ukraine Trusts India to Help End War, Raising Eyebrows in Some Quarters

Following a conversation between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, India reiterated its support for a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The two ministers discussed the situation during a phone call, with Jaishankar stating on X that they discussed the conflict alongside bilateral cooperation. India supports ending the conflict and establishing lasting peace. Kuleba shared updates on the war and Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just peace. He expressed confidence in India’s official stance and active role in supporting a complete end to the war and broader international peace efforts. A meeting between the two ministers is planned during the United Nations General Assembly later this month, to discuss political dialogue, high-level contacts, economic cooperation, technology, and other areas of bilateral relations. This follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, where Modi welcomed all efforts towards establishing peace in Ukraine.
